Being a first-time expectant mom is exciting. The next nine months of your life will be a mixture of joy, anxiety, excitement, and a little depression. Aside from preparing your baby's nursery room and his or her clothes, one of the first things that will keep you busy is shopping for your maternity clothes. It can prove to be difficult because you have to ensure that the clothes will not only fit you right, but comfortable and stylish as well.
The following are some basic tips to give you an idea on the proper way of choosing your very first set of maternity wear.
* Gather the essentials for your maternity wardrobe. These include maternity dresses, maternity pants, maternity jeans, maternity lingerie, maternity blouses, and maternity nursing tops.
* Choose the size that fits you well and can accommodate your expanding belly and growing body. Buying maternity clothes that are too large for you is not advisable because they won't provide you with enough support.
* If you're going to have twins or triplets, then go for plus size maternity clothes.
* Choose maternity bras in different sizes, preferably a few sizes larger than your pre-pregnancy bust line. That way, you have the size that fits just right as your breasts becomes bigger. For nursing bras, however, you will need to wait until the final two months of pregnancy before shopping for them. Chances are you will get the wrong size if you buy your nursing bras during the first few months of your pregnancy.
* When it comes to fabrics, choose stretchable maternity outfits. Opt for clothes made of lycra and cotton. The key to a comfortable pregnancy is to pick maternity clothes made of fabrics that adjust well to your changing size and shape of your body.
* Invest in a feel good maternity outfit. For sure, there's one outfit that can make you feel good about yourself and look more special. It could be a funky top or a stylish dress no matter what your choice is, make sure you have something in your maternity wardrobe that you can wear when you feel blue.
* Accessorize. Accessories such as jewelries, shawls, scarf, handbags, and bolero jackets can turn your plain maternity dress into a fabulous one. So why don't you make them part of your maternity fashion must-haves? A good sense of style is all you need to look great when you're pregnant.
