In the days when fashion for pregnant women meant tent outfits and ill fitting tops, maternity dresses were certainly not flattering on the new curves that came with pregnancy. In addition, such clothes came in limited sizes and styles let alone cuts and colors to the place where pregnant women were constantly frustrated in their efforts to create even a slightly stylish fashion statement. Fortunately, contemporary maternity fashion has progressed to the place where pregnant women can show off their figure in stunning styles which their moms could have only dreamed of.

Today, we notice a lot of pregnant celebrities and stars wearing designs of maternity dresses that are sophisticated as well as a delight to wear. The materials used with such maternity dresses usually are cotton knit, delicate chiffon and possibly clingy spandex, quite a few of which combine sexy together with comfort for the modern woman. These types of maternity clothes demonstrate that having a pregnant belly is a thing to be proud of instead of something to conceal.

In addition to every one of those pluses, you can also wear maternity dresses that show your newly-acquired cleavage. You might end up deciding on deep v-necks, halter dresses, and perhaps tube tops to get a little bolder.

Remember the little black dress you wore when you were dating and at various other times when you wished to be classy, sophisticated, and captivating all simultaneously? Well, you can put on one during your pregnancy, too. You need to simply ensure that the cut, design and size of the dress are specifically designed for pregnant women in order to achieve the same effect as when you were not yet expecting. Of course, showing your excellent sense of style also implies that you know your way around personal accessories from footwear to bracelets. And that means you need to apply your flair for fashion accessories on maternity dresses.

What else could you do? Put on cosmetics to enhance your features. Maybe even go to the spa for a pleasurable beauty treatment.

Be joyful being an expectant mom for this kind of happiness will stand out in your beautiful aura. Everybody you know will see just how stunning you've become.

Maternity dress for office wear

Article by Casey Affleck

For the first trimester of your pregnancy you will be able to make do with your regular office wear. Looking for a maternity dress yet does not come into play. If you do feel a bit of tightening, then you can leave the top button of you skirt or pant undone and cover it up by leaving your top untucked. Another thing you can do is loop a rubber band through the button hole and use this to hold your button in place. It will give you a feel needed inches. The next stage of pregnancy is when you are not truly showing, but you know that you have put on weight and your clothes no longer fit you. Invest in belly bands that hold pants or skirts up even if unzipped. A good maternity dress at this time would be anything that is made of a slightly stretchy material - yoga pants in thick materials, low rise pants that sit below your navel and skirts or pants that come with tummy bands.

Your maternity dress can also be souped up with sweaters, cardigans, tunice, your husband's shirts and leggings. Each of these make for a great maternity dress when you are in the transitional period and are yet to have shared the news with your colleagues. Choose from fabrics that are non-binding like jersey material and clothes made of cotton, some knits and some viscose. Any material that stretches is good. These clothes also double up during the time you take to lose all the baby weight that you have accumulated.

If your work environment demands formal wear, then have a few key pieces in shades that are complimentary will help you have a good maternity dress to wear to office each day. Invest in a pant, skirt, tunic, shirt and a top. Each of these can be mixed and matched to create the kind of maternity dress you would be comfortable in the entire day. With the right kind of accessories, you will have a different look each day.

Add to these a few non-maternity dress items and you will be able to get a few more outfit combinations from them. These could be sweaters or even baggy tops. Of course, before you get into any of these, first knock the doors of friends and relatives who may have a maternity dress or two to give you. You will save significantly by doing this.

Why are maternity clothes so dowdy?

I'm so tired of looking at dowdy, ugly, out dated maternity clothes. Not every mother-to-be is 35, ya know! I'm a little more youthful than that, and I would like to have clothing that would make me feel at least a little bit sexy while I'm pregnant, because my self esteem will plummet with my growing booty. But alas retailers couldn't give a rats a*s. And the maternity clothes that are at least a little bit trendy cost waaaay too much money...I'm not going to pay $80 and up for a shirt that will get worn for maybe a month! Terrible stuff!

I have had the most luck with Old Navy, some really cute stuff.

Tips to Look Trendy While Preggy

300px Pregnant woman in a short dress Tips to Look Trendy While Preggy

        Image via Wikipedia

In the first three to four months of pregnancy, most women can still fit into their regular clothes. However, as time goes by, bigger bust size and waistline make maternity clothes a must-have for pregnant women. Most of them forget about fashion as they fit themselves into shapeless, boring, and sometimes oversized dresses.

Being an expectant mom should not stop you from being trendy and fashionable. Hiding your big tummy is definitely not fashionable. Did you know that it is chic to be pregnant these days? Just take a look at young Hollywood stars today they are proud of their condition and are still glowing and stylish before they give birth. The fad now is to show off your tummy rather than to hide it underneath your clothes. Well, you don't have to do that exactly. Just letting your curves show is a trend in maternity wear.

How can you look trendy when you're pregnant? Here are some suggestions:

        1. Wear your jeans. Who says you can't wear denim when you're pregnant? Some denims are designed to highlight the beautiful curves of pregnant women. You can wear your maternity jeans embroidered, low-slung, and with contrasting washes.
        2. Go for the Hippie style. Look stylish in free-flowing yoke dresses, ethnic skirts, or kaftans that allow some space for an expanding tummy.
        3. Try baby-doll and empire-cut dresses that you can wear with maternity jeans or pants. Pregnant women may also look great wearing patterned blouses or airy tunics underneath cardigans or sweaters. Accessorize them with a wide belt under the belly for a trendier effect.
        4. Don't be afraid to wear suits. There are maternity suits that can be multifunctional: they can be easily switched from day to night. Dress the suits down with a shirt during the day or with a tunic or silk blouse during the night. For many pregnant women, menswear pinstripes and plaids look charming. Maternity suits made of cotton and wool, when worn with chiffon and charmeuse blouses, look charming on pregnant women as well.
        5. Choose the right size. A stylish maternity dress may not look good on you if it doesn't fit you. A maternity outfit is too big for you if you can stick two fingers between the fabric and the waistline. It will still be too big for you even if your belly grows.
        6. Wear accessories that draw attention to your bust line and shoulders. Bolero jackets, capelets, and scarves in contrasting colours can perfectly achieve that purpose. Since the neck and arms stay the same throughout pregnancy, halter tops can also be flattering for pregnant women.
