Fashionable Maternity Clothes for Plus Size Women1 Looking fashionable even during pregnancy and wearing maternity clothesGone are the days when people think that you cannot look your best when you are pregnant, looking fashionable even during pregnancy is not as difficult as you think.

People nowadays have began to embrace the reality that one can still be fashionable and chic even when pregnant.

Pregnancy is starting to become a status symbol as well, since then women are making their mark on society.

But let us try to go individually and try to know what women go through during this phase in their lives, especially in selecting the proper and appropriate clothing that will not just make them feel comfortable, but make them feel and look good.

Truth be told, this is not a difficult thing to do nowadays.
During the first stages of pregnancy, especially during conception, one must make sure to expect that in a month or two, as well as with the next nine months, they should expect a gradual change in size and shape, which is entirely different from just a size or two larger.

Among the major considerations of such changes are the enlargement of the tummy and for some, an increase in waist and hip size, which usually is a result of pregnancy as well, and many more.

The two best options is either to choose from a maternity clothing line and for some, have your maternity clothes custom-made.

The first option is the quickest way to pick your maternity wardrobe, since one can try and fit clothes from an available maternity clothing line, where you have the options to choose from available designs and sizes and immediately try to fit the clothes and after you have chosen the ones you like, you can simply zip by the counter and take it home with you.

If you have your personal preference, you can have your maternity clothes custom-made by a dressmaker, which could sometimes be a bit more expensive than ready-to-wear brands. But then again, to each her own and there are now a lot of ways to make one look fashionable even during pregnancy and wearing maternity clothes.

When Should You Shop For Your Maternity Clothes

Shopping for your maternity clothes needs some planning and timing. Most women start piling up their maternity wardrobe at the end of the 3rd month of pregnancy.

By the 3rd month, you may not look bigger than your usual size, but certain parts of your body would have been expanded. By the 3rd month, you may have gone through all your clothes you have not worn before because they were, well, big.

There will come a time, depending on how fast your baby and your body grew, when you feel all your clothes are uncomfortable, too tight, or some where you can't even seem to get into them.

For the first-time mother-to-be, the solution seems to be buying bigger clothes. Unfortunately, it will not do because these new clothes will be to big for your body.

Maternity clothes have some unique aspects. They are bigger in places where you need them to be bigger. The waist is larger than regular; the tops are fuller, especially in the waist area, as well as those in the waistline.

Modern maternity clothes already have panels or are elastic in the pants and skirts. This is to allow them to expand for your comfort. When buying these clothes, it is wise to choose clothing that has provisions for expansion, usually some elastic materials in areas where your pregnant body is expected to expand. The tops should flow and do not constrict. The primary consideration for maternity clothes is, above all, comfort.

Later, as your body expands, you will see for yourself how certain areas grow.

Your waist will get bigger as well as your breasts. The belly will begin to stick out. In some women, the thighs grow plump in areas. These are the things you have to consider when buying your maternity wear.

If you see red marks around your waist, your waistband is too tight. This is bad for you and your baby. Buy pants, skits, and shorts with wide waistbands.

Cotton is still the best when it comes to maternity clothes. Cotton breathes, and will leave you cool and fresh.

Nowadays, cotton clothing comes in blended with other materials, for reasons of strength, durability, easier cleaning, etc.. The best materials for maternity clothes, of course, are those that you are most comfortable in.

Maternity Clothes Basics

After finding out you are pregnant, will you cringe because of the thought of wearing frumpy maternity clothes and looking like a walking tent?

Those days are gone. The new millennium woman knows what maternity clothes to wear, most of all, be comfortable in them.

But, as in the past, most people forget the basics. What we are talking about are the most important to stock in our wardrobe for all seasons, pregnant or otherwise: the underwear.

Bras

For pregnant women, one of the most important maternity wear is the bra. Women on the way would need at least ten (10) sets of bras that will support the breast and fit comfortably.

The support is important because absence might cause pregnant women to have back pains (not to mention popping buttons). Breasts become fuller, bigger (and heavier) as the pregnancy proceeds. The body prepares the would-be mother for breast-feeding.

Sizing up

While already wearing a bra, wrap a tape measure around your chest (under your arms and above your bust) tight enough but not taut. The figure you get is your bra size. If it is an odd number, add one inch.

Another way is measuring your rib cage and if it is less than 33 inches, add 5 inches. If it is more than 33 inches, add only 3 inches. (Add one inch if the final number is odd.)

Cup size

You have to ensure as well that your bra is the right cup size. If the breast does not stay in the cup (either in the front or sides) you need to choose one cup size up.

If the bra's cup fabric wrinkles up, go down one cup size. You will know if you are comfortable with the size and feel the support it gives as well. Try them on before buying to make sure.

Underwear

In the old days, you have very few choices. Colors only have whites and beige. Sizes were huge, too. Feeling beautiful was not even an option.(It was looked down, so they said.)

Thankfully, today's choices are wide. You can even choose briefs cut boy-style. Color choices have moved from white and beige to pink, black, and even in leopard prints. Choose about three different big sizes for your use during your pregnancy days.

Now that you have your under clothes, you can begin choosing your outer maternity clothes safe in the thought you have will have something good to wear under them.

Many pregnant women these days opt to sew their own maternity clothes because it is less expensive than going to shops and stores. They feel that when they sew their own maternity clothes, they can save a lot of money and can use this saving when the baby finally comes.

If you are one of those who are planning to learn how to sew to make their own maternity dresses, then now is the best time to research on it. You have to have basic knowledge on sewing tips, techniques, fabrics, and tools to be used. But, above all that, one of the most important consideration when you decide to sew your own maternity clothes is the pattern.

In sewing, a pattern is very important because it gives you the initial outline of the maternity dress or any item you are trying to create. Aside from providing you the outline, patterns give you an idea how much fabric you should use and the ideal kind of the fabric for the project.

Seasoned experts agree that in order to get the right patterns for sewing, the sewer must first decide what kind of item you wish to make and then the list of measurements needed. Compared to tablemats or curtains, patterns are more valuable when it comes to making maternity clothes because the "wear ability" of the clothes will basically depend on the patterns chosen.

Choosing the patterns wisely

A specific pattern for clothing will greatly depend on who is going to wear it. Today, because more and more people are into sewing, there are so many sources of patterns available. You can get it from craft stores or specialty sewing stores where you bought the materials like fabric, thread, and the like for your project. Aside from buying these patterns at stores, you can also get it from various magazines that feature basic sewing or in online sewing sites.

When it comes to patterns for maternity clothes, always consider the standard measurements used by the sewing industry to be able to get accurate results. It is always advisable to make use of the measurement charts that can be found in various pattern books because these are based on the standard measurements used by almost all sewers.

Since you will be making your own maternity clothes, it would be best to ask for someone's help especially when it comes to taking measurements. Ask those who have basic knowledge on sewing and measurement so they could get accurate measurements from key body parts such as the chest or breasts, arms, the back, the waist, the hips, and the back length.

I am pregnant with twins and will be pregnant through the winter (which is very cold here) so I am looking for a cute maternity jacket! There are NO stores where I live, so I have to buy one online. I don't want to have to dress like a slob just because I am pregnant. I am in the US, but am open to foreign stores, as long as they ship to the US. I have already been to Gap, Pea in the Pod and Mimi Maternity, and haven't seen anything I really liked. If it helps, my pre-pregnancy clothes are from anthropologie, urban outfitters, marc jacobs and american apparel. Anybody have any ideas?

Cute maternity clothes?

Hello i am 22 weeks pregnant and am starting to have to wear only maternity clothes. Where can I find Cute, Stylish, and In expensive maternity clothes? Preferebly a place with a large selection! Thanks.

One thing I found is that cute maternity clothes are hard to find. Get maternity pants and then look at regular places where you shop for larger shirts. I found that ross, forever 21, khols and places like that have shirts that I can wear that are a lot cuter that maternity clothes and they are a lot cheaper, and I would wear them after I am pg. So try to look elsewhere not only at maternity stores.
